GE will announce on Wednesday a push (their $500M investment) to connect machines to cloud computing centers. The service, called Predix Cloud, will collect data from sensors to help with performance and maintenance. The manufacturing conglomerate manufacturers everything from steam and gas turbines to jet engines, and has a strong presence in the Albany, New York, region with more than 7,000 employees. Eventually, GE wants to create an online location where manufacturers can find the software they need for their businesses. The company expects $6 billion in revenue from software this year, a 50% increase from last year.
